In the spirit of Pizza Day, I visited Vico for their special pizza menu only available during the week of 06-12 February. The menu was simple, one pizza option for starter, main and dessert. THAT’S THREE COURSES OF PIZZA. Decision making wasn’t so hard then.

The starter was amazing. Deep fried pizza dough, the satisfying crunch I could hear as I bit in was amazing, I think some of the cheese crisped up during the deep frying process. It was in no way soggy or greasy at all. The pizza dough was topped with fresh tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella and a basil leaf. The classic flavours for pizza, this was my favourite course by far.

As I made my way through to the main course, there was a bit of a fiery kick to this one thanks to the nudja. What is nudja you may ask? I certainly did at the table. It’s a spread made from fatty pork and various spices and peppers. It definitely was quite a strong flavour and lingered on the tongue for the entirety of this course, but extinguished just slightly by the less fiery rocket salad and tomatoes. I love aubergines and I get it has a forgiving taste and it quite a mild flavour but I didn’t really taste it, think it was overpowered by the nudja.

Finishing off this meal with more pizza as the dessert. Whilst chocolate and sour cherry theoretically and do work harmoniously together, the added layer of custard only added more sweetness to this pizza but not so much to completely overpower the sour cherry. This was my least favourite course out of the menu, one thing that could’ve made this dessert slightly better was if it was served at least warm, but that’s just me.
